Frequently asked questions
Tavaasa coffee is unique because we only use Single Origin coffee, even our blends are made from Single Origin coffee.
Every coffee bean, whether good or bad, has its own unique flavour representing its “terroir” or characteristics of the area, the weather, the trees that grow around it, the animals and birds that live there etc. When beans from different estates are mixed, this individuality, this taste is lost.
At Tavaasa there is no mixing that happens (for our blends we mix very specific single origin beans in a specific ratio to enhance the complexity) so you get to taste the real coffee.
All the tasting notes and flavours in our coffee have been naturally absorbed by the coffee plant during cultivation or the coffee cherries during processing.
Coffee is a very hygroscopic plant and absorbs flavours from its environment, but what it absorbs cannot be easily predicted.
Eg, in a fruit fermantation process, the coffee cherries are put in fermentation tanks with a fruit, eg orange, for 72-96 hours. There is a good chance that the resulting coffee will have very complex flavours, but will probably not have the flavour of orange.
There is no chemical process.
Yes, Tavaasa coffee beans are completely safe to consume. In fact as long as you buy whole coffee beans from anywhere, they should be safe to consume.
Our coffee beans are grown sustainably and ethically. No chemicals are used between the farm and your cup.
Yes, all Tavaasa coffee is safe to consume.
The experimental coffees are those where the planter has chosen amazing coffee beans and put them through an experimental phase during processing. Given coffee is relatively very young, planters often borrow ideas from the various experiments done in making amazing wine and amazing scotch.
This experimentation is often related to the fermentation process. Coffee is usually fermented by letting the cherries soak in clean water for 24 hours.
In these experimental processes, during fermentation the planters often add either some fruit like pineapples, banana, oranges etc, or some specific yeast. In some cases the fermentation can be anaerobic or the cherries arcould be frozen and more recently the cherries are left to age in barrels previously used in making whiskey or rum.
There are no chemicals used.
Absolutely! Tavaasa we believe in the individuality of every coffee, so each coffee is roasted differently to maximize its flavour. Tavaasa offers a diverse range of roasts and blends to cater to various taste preferences.
At Tavaasa, we do not do dark roasts. French and Vienna roasts have high percentages of ash in them, which is neither tasty nor healthy.
Yes, you can purchase Tavaasa coffee beans in bulk quantities. However, given that roasted coffee has a shelf life of less than 6 months and more importantly it tastes amazing before 3 months are up (unless nitrogen flushed), we would recommend you to only buy coffee which you can consume within 3 months.
Or better still, reach out to us and we will guide you towards the best possible solution for you.
To maintain freshness and flavor, we recommend storing Tavaasa coffee beans in an airtight container in a cool, dark place like your refrigerator. Exposure to oxygen, direct sunlight, heat, and moisture can degrade the quality of the beans over time.
When stored properly, our coffee beans will retain their exceptional taste and aroma for longer. That said, it is still advisable to buy in suitable quantities that you can consume within 3 months.
